| Disability Sport England is proud to have NBA star John Amaechi open the British Open Athletics Championships, supported by Leisure Connection Ltd, in Birmingham. It is great to have a man who has achieved his dream, and is still ensuring that others achieve theirs. The 300 athletes competing at the event have their sights set on the Paralympics in September 2004. This event is IPC sanctioned which means the times can be used as qualifiers for such big events. John will be present to spur the athletes on as well as officially open the event at midday on Saturday 16th. FULL STORY Bucknall announces all-star line up for London camp 2 July 2003 - Steve Bucknall, a former LA Lakers player and graduate of North Carolina, is bringing the Tar Heel brand of college basketball to the UK. Featuring Hall of Fame coach Dean E. Smith, the winningest coach in the history of college basketball, Bucknall Essential Skills presents The “Carolina Experience” taking place at the National Sports Centre on Thursday 14th August to Sunday 17th August 2003. The 4 days will include a 3-day basketball camp for boys and girls aged 14 to 18, followed by the coach’s seminar, including lectures from guest of honour Coach Dean Smith. FULL STORY
Hackney seek place in Semi-Final 2 July 2003 - The seventh Pro-Am Summer League got underway Wednesday 25th June and featured two intriguing match-ups. Last year’s semi-finalist Hackney took on local rivals London United. However, many eyes were on Pool A, where the colourful Streetball.co.uk team went up against Summer League debutants, the English Students, who introduced numerous new names and faces to regular followers of the summer game.
