Steve
Bucknall, a former LA Lakers player and graduate of North Carolina,
is bringing the Tar Heel brand of college basketball to the UK.
Featuring Hall of Fame coach Dean E. Smith, the winningest coach
in the history of college basketball, Bucknall Essential Skills
presents The “Carolina Experience” taking place at
the National Sports Centre on Thursday 14th August to Sunday 17th
August 2003.
The 4 days will include a 3-day basketball camp for boys and girls
aged 14 to 18, followed by the coach’s seminar, including
lectures from guest of honour Coach Dean Smith.
Other confirmed speaker’s are JR Reid - a former North Carolina
player with 9 years NBA experience, Kevin Cadle who entered the
Guinness Book of Records as the most successful coach in UK history,
Chris Finch coach of the year and BBL champion for 2003 with Sheffield
Sharks, current England Senior Men’s basketball head coach
Laszlo Nemeth, and Ed Percival one of only six master trainers
certified by the Society of NLP.
Coach
Smith confirmed, "Steve Bucknall has played an important
part both in my life, and within in the game of basketball, so
I’m delighted he’s following up an excellent playing
career by passing on his knowledge and experience to the next
generation of players. I am very much looking forward to working
with him to develop our great game in England."
The
“Carolina Experience” is the biggest camp of its kind
ever to reach these shores. Coaches and players will have the
opportunity to meet current and former England Internationals
– on hand to pass on their knowledge to the young talent
in today’s game.

will help players and coaches with the principles of defensive
and offensive skill development, all fundamental tools for basketball.
The backbone of any successful player is his ability to master
fundamentals.”
