Sport England is proud to have NBA star John Amaechi open the
British Open Athletics Championships, supported by Leisure Connection
Ltd, in Birmingham. It is great to have a man who has achieved
his dream, and is still ensuring that others achieve theirs.
The
300 athletes competing at the event have their sights set on the
Paralympics in September 2004. This event is IPC sanctioned which
means the times can be used as qualifiers for such big events.
John will be present to spur the athletes on as well as officially
open the event at midday on Saturday 16th.
