NBA
All-Star Tracy McGrady is to star with his own signature shoe
in global basketball ad campaign for adidas.
The
TV ads feature McGrady and his T-MAC 2 shoe illustrating that
teamwork raises the level of play of individuals. Two versions
will be screened on MTV throughout Europe titled “One”
and “Acknowledge” to coincide with the November launch
of the T-MAC 2 shoe.
“One” was directed by Doug Pray, who has cut music
videos for hip-hop acts such as Eazy-E, Steve Earle, John Fogerty
and Flop. “Acknowledge” is the work of twin brother
directors Allen and Albert Hughes known for their strong soundtracks.
The pair have previously directed such films as “Dead Presidents”,
“Menace II Society” and “From Hell”.
“McGrady
is arguably the most impactful, popular player in the game today,”
said John Kawaja, Director of Marketing, adidas America. “We
think his personality has as much to do with that as his playing
ability. Our ‘team’ concept represents McGrady’s
and adidas’ own perspective on the game today.”
The
T-MAC 2 will be available in White/Royal in limited numbers exclusively
from JD Sports nationwide from January 2003, priced at £80.00.
