BBL Weekend Review
16th March 2003

Brighton's hopes of extending their advantage at the top of the Championship were dealt a blow when they suffered their seventh defeat of the season, a 99-88 reverse at the hands of Thames Valley Tigers at the Bracknell Leisure Centre on Sunday evening.

Chester Jets kept up their title challenge in the BBL Championship after picking up a 105-91 victory over the Newcastle Eagles at the Northgate Arena on Sunday evening.

Brendan Graves and Michael Nurse bagged 20 points apiece for the hosts, as they celebrated their qualfication for the BBL Championship playoffs. The result also means that Brighton are now level with Westfield Sharks Sheffield at the top of the BBL Championship.

Birmingham Bullets improved their chances of qualification for the BBL Championship playoffs thanks to two impressive victories over fellow playoff challengers. They defeated the Kinder London Towers 95-89 at the Aston Events Centre on Wednesday evening, and followed that result with an important 86-81 victory over DG Essex Leopards Kool Kats at the Brentwood Centre on Friday night.

Leopards' hopes of gaining a playoff berth were dealt a double blow as they also fell to an 82-81 defeat at the hands of Championship title contenders Brighton Bears.

Milton Keynes Lions suffered mixed fortunes in their quest for a playoff berth. They suffered a 102-74 defeat to Sheffield at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre on Thursday night, and followed it up with a comfortable 102-75 victory over the Leicester Riders at the Bletchley Leisure Centre on Sunday evening.

That result, combined with a 94-78 defeat at the hands of the Scottish Phoenix Mitsubishi Rocks at Loughborough University on Thursday night, ended Leicester's slim chances of gaining a playoff position.
