ENGLAND WOMEN CADETTES
INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF COGNAC, FRANCE
After
Thursdays loss to Bulgaria, the path for Nick Ibberson and
his Cadettes did not become any smoother. On Friday and Saturday,
the England Cadettes faced two strong opponents in Belarus and France
87 respectively. Both were convincing wins for their European competitors
as they lost 92-41 to Belarus and 79-32 to the France 87s.
The final match on Sunday versus France 88 was a much closer affair.
Only two points were the difference in this game with the final
score finishing 46-44 in favour of the French. This was a great
note on which to end an all-important international event for the
Cadettes.
Acting head coach, Ibberson, was not at all disappointed with the
tournament outcome. He was particularly impressed with how Englands
defence improved as the weekend passed, admitting the girls never
ceased in their hard work despite the strength of their opponents.
The trip was a wonderful experience for the Cadettes that gave valuable
insight for upcoming international fixtures. The most important
of which, at present, is the Challenge Round for next summers
European Championships. This Challenge round will occur in Pozega,
Croatia from April 22nd 26th. Here, they will face five strong
nations in five days in an event that will truly test their will
and endurance. A four-day camp will be held prior to their Croatian
departure in preparation for the tournament. They will leave England
for Croatia on Easter Sunday.
