The
England U14 Basketball team (1989 born) returned very successfully
from their groundbreaking training week in Istanbul, the fanatical
basketball heart of Turkey. The team is the first in over 15 years
to work with the strong fundamental knowledge of the Turks, who
are now establishing themselves within the top 3 superpowers in
European basketball.
The intensive week included competitive games against Turkey’s
finest clubs, the results were as follows: -
England 54 Efes Pilsen 57
England 80 Ulker 65
England 30 Ulker (1987’s) 94
England 63 Efes Pilsen 66

The
key aim of the week was preparing the youngsters for the gruelling
schedule of games and training required at top European level,
whilst being able to withstand a very physical game, especially
under the baskets.
Head Coach Tim Lewis outlined the key achievements of the week:
"Once again the players have been exposed to some of the
strongest and fundamentally sound basketball in Europe. The experiences
that we can take from trips like this are endless and will stand
us in good stead in the build up to the European Qualification
round next summer. It was once again very clear that the main
difference between us and the Turks, was fundamentals, footwork
etc."
"It is our intention to play twenty games against National
and European teams before the BAM this summer and forty before
the European Qualification in Summer 2004."
