The England Under 18 Men’s team, under head coach Rick Wooldridge,
will depart Manchester for Tallinn, Estonia on August 4th to compete
in the Qualifying Round of the European Championships for Junior
Men. They will have their final training session this weekend
at the Amaechi Basketball Centre to prepare for their tournament
opener against Sweden on August 6th.
The Junior Men have played more matches than any of the other
England National Teams throughout the 2002-2003 Season –
mostly against National League clubs from the Midlands area. They
also competed in an Easter tournament in Cherbourg, along with
the Whitsun International Tournament held in Holland during May.
This wealth of experience playing as a team should be a positive
factor towards their performance in Estonia.
Estonia is hosting the European Championships Qualifier for Group
F, whose participants include Latvia, Germany, Finland, Sweden,
England, and the home country. The top three teams in all six
groups competing around Europe will advance to the Challenge Round
of the Championship.
