Bears booked their place in the BBL Championship play-off Final
after a tightly fought 88-83 victory over the Newcastle Eagles
at the National Indoor Arena on Saturday evening.
After a tight opening the Eagles took the early advantage off
the back of an 8-0 run to lead 14-7 and ultimately led 20-17 after
the first period.
The Bears rattled off the opening six points of the second quarter
to take a single-point lead at 23-22 before the Eagles scored
ten of the next twelve points to lead 32-27.
The Bears slowly clawed their way back and only trailed 38-39
at the half.
The second half remained tight throughout, but Brighton took the
upperhand, and took the game out to 60-50, before an 11-2 Eagles
run, including a huge three-pointer from Andrew Mavis brought
the game back to within a point at 62-61 going into the final
stanza.
The final period was close, but it was Brighton who scored eight
of the last thirteen points in the game to secure the victory.
Niki Arinze led all scorers with an impressive 30-point haul for
the Eagles, while Sterling Davis led the Brighton scorers with
24.
