Before a sell out crowd of 5000 GBR basketball team met the might of the USA.
Both teams were undefeated so one team had to loose their record. Neither team
shot well during the first quarter but GBR held their own . The score being 20-14
at the end of the first quarter.
Could they maintain
this intensity? Yes, as long as it was low scoring GBR was in with a chance. The
referees calls were not going their way and GBR struggled to score. The half time
score was 43-28 to the USA, GBR had been out played. The coaching staff had a
tough job during the interval especially as they have another important game tonight
against Brazil. Mike Bernard in trouble with three fouls was a major problem.
The US started
the second half with a zone, which meant that GBR had to shoot well from outside
the key. This they did not do with any consistency whereas the US scored on a
succession of fast breaks and they led 72-40 at the end of the third quarter.
A matter of damage limitation in the final quarter saw the final score at 62-91.
