London Towers have added another two players to their roster for the 2001/02 season,
with the news that Phil Hickey and Wayne Henry have signed.
611
centre Hickey is new to the BBL, joining Towers following a stint in Finland playing
for PuHu Pussihukat Vantaa. During the 2000/01 season he averaged 18.5 points
and 14.5 rebounds per game for his Finnish side.
Prior to that,
Hickey spent a season in the IBL playing for the Cincinnati Stuff and was drafted
by the New Hampshire Thunder Loons in the 1999 USBL Draft. This followed his graduation
from Notre Dame University.
Head Coach Lino
Frattin commented, I am happy to have Phil Hickey in the team. He is a young
centre with margins of improvement. He will be a useful player in the BBL, and
the more physical Euroleague.
While Hickey is
new to British basketball, Wayne Henry re-joins the Towers for another season.
The 60 English guard was part of the Towers Southern Conference
winning team last season, averaging 7.25 points per game in the BBL, while also
playing in the Euroleague and NEBL as well.
Wayne is
the only player that I coached two years ago, remarked Coach Frattin. In
those two years he has gained experience and now has to work hard to become an
important piece of the Towers jigsaw.
Hickey and Henry
join Jeff Kent and Robert Youngblood on the roster for the forthcoming season,
which tips-off in late September. Further announcements will be announced in the
near future.
Towers first game
of the season takes place on Saturday 29th September, when Crystal Palace National
Sports Centre is the venue for Towers BBL Championship tie with Edinburgh Rocks
[tip-off 6.30pm].
